Archaic or the Old English is the West Germanic language that was prevalent and openly spoken in (PRESENT DAY England) during the CLASSIC TIMES of 5th and 11th centuries. Archaic English Language speakers addressed ENGLISH as Englisc. The speakers used to call themselves as Angle, Angelcynn or Angelfolc and the place, where they lived was the – Angelcynn or Englaland.
Old English was the popular form of writing in the times of 8th century. The texts appeared in West Saxon, one of the four main dialects of Mercian, Northumbrian and the Kentish. The Anglo-Saxons were quick to incorporate the styles, practised by Irish missionaries, such as insular half-uncial that had the usage in the books written in Latin. Later in the 8th century, LESS FORMALIZED version became the trend. It was only in the 10th Century that Anglo-Saxon communities in England continued with Caroline Minuscule for Latin, whereas the Old English adopted the Insular minuscule. Post 10th Century, the times were ripe when Old English script followed Caroline Minuscule, and retained many distinctive Insular variants.
The Older Version of English was written for the first time in the Runic alphabet or Anglo-Saxon or Anglo-Frisian runes, or futhorc/fuþorc. Runic alphabet was extended version of Elder Futhark, the use of which was limited between 26 and 33 letters. Historical references show Anglo-Saxon runes predominated 5th century AD through the 10th century.
